WHERE WE MAKE OUR PRODUCTS
Earthtec manufactures its products all over the world. Our overarching goal as a company is to mainstream the acceptance of apparel made from recycled and sustainable fabrics and to bring global awareness to the advancements and importance of this technology.
We have a manufacturing facility in our corporate headquarters in Portsmouth, NH. In this facility we are sewing, printing, and embroidering apparel made from sustainable fabrics. We are currently in the process of expanding the size of this facility. As a company, we are committed to increasing the percentage of products we make domestically.
We consider many factors when selecting the location of our manufacturing facilities. These include the effect on the environment, fair labor practices, manufacturing efficiencies, and carbon footprint – to name a few. The short story here is that not all factories are created equal. We manufacture in responsible and specialized factories that are third-party inspected to the industries highest quality standards including WRAP certification. We also try to manage the affordability of our products, as this is a critical component to the success of this campaign. It is important to remember that the greatest environmental impact comes from the greatest number of tribe members we can create.
We make many of our polo shirts in Peru, our t-shirts in Pennsylvania, our jackets in China, our kid's fleece vests and dresses in Massachusetts and many of our accessories and specialty items in Portsmouth. Our fabrics are also made in the USA and in Asia.
The majority of our garments are made with recycled PET (post consumer water bottles). The world consumes over 140 billion bottles a year. The US uses around 40 billion, or 28% of that total number. Approximately 80% of those bottles go un-recycled. The fact that 72% of the bottles used on the planet are outside the USA, makes it obvious that this needs to be a global campaign. It takes approximately 12 bottles to make an Earthtec garment and by giving those bottles a second life, they are being diverted from a landfill.

One of the most important goals of our awareness campaign is to get people to think about the second-life value of bottles, so that the percentage that are recycled increases. In a perfect world, bottles would be converted back to fiber close to the source of use and collection, but unfortunately, it is not a perfect world. It is our goal to help this technology grow in popularity and acceptance so that a more streamlined conversion and resale process, close to the origin of use, will be possible in the near future.
We used to believe that our most important goal was to make products and sell products exclusively in the USA, as that is our heritage, but as we stepped back and took a more global look at the situation related to the number of un-recycled bottles internationally, we discovered that the educational components were equally or possibly even more important outside the USA.
